Conditions for Campervan & Motorhome Rental (New Zealand)

This document contains a summary of some of the Rental Conditions. For full detailed Conditions refer to the Rental Agreement
on pick-up.
Standard Daily Rates include:

Goods and Services Tax(GST)
GST is a New Zealand Government imposed tax. GST is included in all Britz rates and is currently 12.5%. Britz reserves the right to amend GST upon Government intervention
Kitchen Equipment
includes plates, bowls, cups, glasses, knives, forks, spoons, bottle/can opener, mixing bowls, colander, saucepans, frying pans, cooking utensils, chopping board, kettle, teapot, toaster and tea towel.
General Equipment
includes pegs, dustpan/brush fire extinguisher, bucket/hose, broom, matches, coat hangers and toilet chemicals.
Britz Stress Free package
(Applies to all vehicles except Britz Rookie)
The Stress Free Package is payable per day in addition to the daily rental rate and can only be done via our website upon booking NOT on arrival at the branch.

No Worries Cover
This option extends the cover available with excess reduction 2 includes cover for accidental damage to the overhead and underbody sections of the vehicle. with 4WD hires it also reduces the excess to NIL
Linen and Bedding
Includes pillow,pillowcase,duvet,sheet and towel per person. This is included in the Britz Bonus Pack. If the Britz Bonus pack is not selected, the customer can hire linen and bedding packs direct from Britz at the cost of NZ$38 per person, per hire.
Extra driver fees
are included in the Britz Bonus Pack. If the Britz Bonus pack is not the selected package the cost of the extra driver fees are NZ$3 per day per person,per hire
Pre-Purchase Gas Option(PGO)
This allows the customer to return the vehicle without the need for the gas bottle to be replenished. The gas bottle is used to operate the gas stove and to heat the hot water in vehicles with a hot water facility.
Baby/booster seat
Note that not all Britz vehicles can accommodate child restraint equipment. Childseats depending on the childs age are commonly usde for children 3 years or less. Reversible childseats or capsules are used so that an infant can be accommodated. Booster seats seats again depending on the childs size are commonly used for children between 3 and8 years of age. All child restraunt equipment is to be fitted by the hirer facing foward, in the appropriate seat/s and cannot be situated on side facing seats.
4WD Safety Kit
Included in the Britz Bonus Pack for 4WD campervan hires only. The Kit includes an Emergency Position Indication Radio Beacon (EPIRB), snatch strap with d shackles and a folding spade. An EPIRB when activated transmits an emergency distress signal which can be detected by MHz frequencies. A snatch strap is used to pull a vehicle from a bogged position with the aid of another vehicle. The d shackles secure the snatch strap to a rigid anchor point.
Britz Stress Free package
(Applies only to Britz Rookie)
The Stress Free Package is payable per day in addition to the daily rental rate and can only be done via our website upon booking NOT on arrival at the branch.

Insurance Excess Options
Personal injury is covered in most cases through Registration Third Party Insurance. We strongly recommend that all people travelling in New Zealand take out Personal Travel Insurance.
All Vehicles are insured for the damage to the vehicle or to the property of a Third Party. The hirer is responsible for the first NZ$7,500 or NZ$2,500 (Rookie Vehicle only) of ANY ACCIDENT COST of damage to Third Party property or to the rented vehicle, including single vehicle accident, windscreen and tyre damage, overhead and underbody damage, towing and
recovery costs, theft, fire, break in or vandalism with the exception of the exclusions.
This also includes the cost of the daily rental rate for the period the vehicle is off fleet for accident repairs. The excess applies in respect of each claim, not rental.
The excess is applicable regardless of who is at fault and must be paid at the time the accident report is completed, not at the completion of the rental. The excess will be refunded if Britz is successful in recovering the cost of the damages from the Thrid Party. Please note that Third Party claims can take months to resolve.
This Standard Excess can be reduced by purchasing one of the following options at the depot:

No Worries Cover:
The No Worries cover option is a one off fee of AU$50 per hire for 2WD vehicles and AU$120 for 4WD vehicles. The cover is only available when excess reduction 2 has been purchased.
Note - the no worries cover option is included in the Stress Free Package.
With the no worries cover option, the hirer will not have to pay any excess at all for any damage to the vehicle or property of a third party with the exception of the exclusions however this will inlcude accidental overhead or underbody damage to the vehicle. Please note overhead and underbody damage cover is excluded unless the no worres cover option has been purchased.
Diesel Tax Recovery Fee
The Diesel Tax Recovery fee is included in the Stress Free Package. If the Stress free Package has not been selected the Diesel Tax Recovery fee will be calculated on return of the vehicle based on the kilometres travelled during the hire.

Tyre and Windscreen Damage:
Where the hire has a nil excess up to one windscreen and two tyres will be covered for accidental damage. Should these amounts be exceeded the cost to repair or replace the items will not be covered and will be the responsibility of the hirer.
Exclusions:
All insurance cover will be made void if any of the following Exclusions are
breached:
- Overhead and underbody damage to the vehicle - except where no worries cover has been purchased.
- Any water related damage, which includes but is not limited to:
- any vehicle submersion
- creek or river crossing
- driving through low plain flooded areas
- beach driving
- Personal belongings: we recommend the hirer does not leave valuables in the
vehicle and that they take out personal insurance.
- Any damage caused by willful misconduct (e.g. sitting or standing on the bonnet or roof of the vehicle) and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
- A single vehicle roll over occurs.
- Damage caused to the vehicle by snow chains.
- The incorrect use of fuel or the use of Bio Diesel which should not be used (fuel being diesel or petrol), or water or other contamination of fuel.
- The cost to retrieve or recover a vehicle which has become bogged, regardless of the Excess Reduction Package taken.
- The cost to replace keys which have become lost, or retrieval of keys which have been locked in a vehicle.
- The vehicle rented may only be used to carry the maximum number of passengers as dictated by the vehicle type. If more passengers are carried than what is allowed Britz does not accept any liability.
- Drivers not identified on the rental agreement and/or that have a licence that has been cancelled or suspended and/or drivers who have a licence that is classified as a learners or probationary.
Vehicle Security Deposit or Bond
On pick up of the vehicle, a Vehicle Security Deposit is payable, the exact amount required for your particular situation is shown on your Voucher. For security purposes,only a credit card can be used for payment of bond. The credit card holder must be present and able to sign for the vehicles security deposit upon vehicle collection. The credit card holder is jointly and severally liable for any damage to the rental vehicle.
PLEASE NOTE: Electronic Credit cards are not accepted for Bond Payments. An electronic credit card is one where the numbers are not raised.
Credit cards are actually debited for $7,500 ($2,500 Rookie vehicle) or $2500/$220/ $440 (4WD vehicles) if excess reduction is taken out, so you MUST have available credit. Debited bonds are subject to a 2% administration fee and is refunded when the bond is refunded. If bond is retained the administration fee is retained. (When American Express card is used for Bond the 4.5%administration fee is not refunded).
Britz reserves the right to retain an AU$220 cleaning fee if the vehicle is not returned in a clean condition. This includes smoking related cleaning, as smoking is not permitted in the vehicle. The toilet and waste water tank must be emptied prior to the return of the vehicle, or an additional AU$125 soiling fee will be retained.
For Security purposes, only the hirers credit card can be used for the Refundable Bond.
Due to exchange rate fluctuations there could be some variance in the amount
refunded compared to the amount initially charged. Britz does not accept any
liability for variances up or down.
The Security Deposit is fully refundable provided the vehicle is returned on time,to the correct location, undamaged, with a clean interior and with full fuel tank (Fuel being petrol, diesel and LPG gas).
Credit Cards
The credit card holder will be jointly and severally liable as a customer. Accepted credit cards are Visa Card, Mastercard and American Express. A non-refundable 2% administration fee will apply to all Visa and Mastercard transactions (4.5% applies to American Express). Debited bonds are subject to the administration fee and is refunded when the bond is refunded. If bond is retained the administration fee is retained. (When American Express card is used for Bond the administration fee is not refunded). Only the hires credit card is acceptable to use for the purpose of the security bond.
Personal and Company Cheques
Personal and Company cheques will not be accepted as payment for rentals at the time of pick-up. These must be received by Britz 14 days prior to commencement of rentals. Personal or Company cheques are not acceptable as the vehicle security deposit.
Calculation Errors
We will not honour calculation errors. should a calculation error occur we will charge for the shortfall
Agent non Payment
In the case where pre-payment is required and this has not been made the hirer agrees to pay the full costs to Britz
License
A current and full open drivers license from your resident country, held for a least one year, is to be presented at the time of rental. If the license is not in an English format, an international drivers license must be presented WITH the foreign license.
Age Restrictions
Drivers must be 21 years of age or over. For drivers over the age of 75, a medical certificate stating that the customer is fit to drive for the duration of the hire is required.

As a standard option the Rookie vehicle comes with a picnic backpack (crockery and cutlery for two),two chairs and one table. In addition, if the Bonus Pack has been booked linen and bedding, extra driver fees and snow chains if required are included.
Linen and bedding, extra driver fees, outdoor table and chairs, a baby/booster seat (if required), pre-purchase gas option, heater, (if required),snow chains (if required)and the 4WD safety kit (4WD campervan rentals only) are included in the Britz Bonus Pack for campervans.
Rental Duration
(Does not apply to Rookie)
- Rental days are charged per calendar day. When calculating the number of days a vehicle is rented, the day of pick-up is counted as day one of the rental. The day of the vehicles return is counted as the final day of the rental. Vehicles are required to be collected and returned within business hours.
- Minimum rental periods is 5 days.with the exception of hires with a collection date between 23 december and 10 January,which requires a minimum rental period of 10 days
- Minimum rental period is 10 days when a vehicle is being collected from the North Island and is being returned to the South Island if the rental commences between the months of october through to March.
- Minimum rental period is subject to change during peak periods
- These rates and terms may not apply to rentals exceeding 100 days, which includes multihires. Requests can still be submitted via normal process and we will advise costing.Special rates are available for rentals of more than 100 days, please submit through our system and we will advise any additional discount.
- Late Pick-up or early return of vehicle does not entitle the hirer to any refund of the unused portion of the rental. Late returns will be charged on a per day basis. Failure to obtain authorisation for a rental extension will result in a daily rental fee of NZ$150 in addition to the daily rate.
Rental Duration
(Only applies to Rookie)
- The Rookie is available to and from Auckland and Christchurch
- Rental days are charged per calendar day. When calculating the number of days a vehicle is rented, the day of pick-up is counted as day one of the rental. The day of the vehicles return is counted as the final day of the rental. Vehicles are required to be collected and returned within business hours.
- Minimum rental periods is 3 days pick up and return same city and 5 days for one way hire.With the exception of hires with a collection date between 23 december and 10 January,which requires a minimum rental period of 10 days
- Minimum rental period is 10 days when a vehicle is being collected from the North Island and is being returned to the South Island if the rental commences between the months of october through to March.

Road Restrictions
2WD Campervans can only be driven on sealed/bitumen or well maintained roads.4WD campervans can also be driven on recognised unsealed roads.Please contact reservations for more information and suggested itineries.
No vehicle is permitted to travel on:
- Skippers Road (Queenstown)
- Ninety Mile Beach (Northland)
- Ball Hut Road( Mt Cook)
- Bluff Road that runs between Kuatunu and Mataurangi
- North of Colville Township (Coromandel Peninsula)
Britz reserves the right at its sole discretion to restrict vehicle movements in certain areas due to adverse road or weather conditions.
Change of Drop-Off Destination
If the customer wishes to change the drop-off destination after the rental has commenced, they must first obtain authorisation from Reservations. Subject to the change being approved, an additional charge of up to NZ$550 may apply.
Multiple Rentals
Should a customer have more than one rental, they can be combined to qualify for
longer term hire discounts. Motorhome hire for both Australia and New Zealand for both Britz and Maui can be combined, to qualify travel is within a 3 month period. For all rentals to qualify each booking needs to be made at the same time. If a customer makes another booking at a later time, the new booking can be combined to qualify if the vehicle collection date/s are within a 3 month period however, the original bookings will only qualify for a discount if the booking/s are not already travelling or travelled.
For campervans that pick up and drop off on the same day, the less expensive rental day will be free of charge. This also applies to the Excess Reduction option taken, if applicable.
If multiple hires are within the same country and total days exceed 50 days only the maximum charge applicable to excess reduction or the Britz stress free package will apply. Multiple rentals with 100 days or more in total need to be applied for.
The one-way fee (if applicable) and charges for additional products and services
will be charged per vehicle rented.
One-Way Rentals
One-way rentals are available between all branch locations (not applicable to Rookie)
One-Way rentals are available between Auckland and Christchurch when the booked vehicle is the Rookie.
A One-way rental fee of NZ$250 is charged for rentals between the North and South Islands and vice versa, where pick up is between 01 October and 31 march .
The one-way fee if applicable is charged per hire.
Wellington and Queenstown Fees
Vehicle collections and returns in Wellington and Queenstown incur a NZ$200 location fee (same city collection and return, one fee applies). This is in addition to the one-way fee if applicable.
Transfers
We provide free airport to branch and branch to airport transfer on day of arrival and departure for our Auckland and Christchurch Branches. Queenstown branch is located at the airport. The Wellington agency is located 40 minutes from the airport and clients must arrange their own transportation to and from the branch at their own expense.
Infringements
We reserve the right to charge the hirer for any speeding, parking or tollway fines, associated administration costs and/or accidents including third party property damage not reported on return of the vehicle. The administration fee per fine will be NZ$60.
Customer Care On-Road Assistance
Any problems associated with the vehicle, including equipment failure, must be
reported toBritz as soon as possible and within 24 hours in order to give Britz the opportunity to recitfy the problem during the rental. Failure to do so will
compromise any claims for compenstion. We do not accept liability for any claims
submitted after this period.

Change of Vehicle
Should the vehicle booked be unavailable through unforeseen circumstances, Britz reserve the right to substitute an alternative vehicle without prior notification and at no extra cost. This shall not constitute a breach of contract and does not entitle the hirer to a refund.
Vehicle Category
Vehicles cannot be requested by make or model, only by vehicle category.
Voluntary Downgrade
Should the hirer decide to take a lesser vehicle than booked they will not be
entitled to any refund.
Cancellation and Amendments
In the case of cancelling your reservation, the deposit is Non Refundable. In addition there is a $100 cancellation fee. A No Show is considered as a cancellation.
Amendments are charged at a rate of $50 per change. This applies but is not limited to changing the client name, vehicle type, reducing the number of rental days, changing the pickup dates or locations. No refund will be given on the intial deposit paid.
If an amendment is made to the rental whereby the length of hire is shortened, no refund will be given on the initial deposit amount. In addition, if an amendment is made inside 14 days of pick up, the rental will be charged at the number of days originally booked.
Where the hire is being extended, the amendment fee will not apply.
Please note that amendments may result in the daily rental rate to be recalculated at the rate applicable on the date of the amendment for the entire rental period.
Important
Britz reserves the right to refuse any rental at its discretion.
Animals
No animals are permitted in our vehicles, excluding guide dogs.
