Wellington Interislander Terminal

Location

The Wellington Interislander Terminal is located between the central city and State Highway 1 - just 5 minutes from the heart of the city.

Hours of Operation

The Wellington Terminal is open between 6.30am to 6.15pm daily. Opening hours may be subject to change, in line with changes of timetables.

Shuttles

Interislander provides a bus service between Platform 9 at the Wellington Railway Station and the Wellington terminal. The cost of the bus is $2 per person (children under 5 years of age are free). Tickets may be bought using cash or credit card (excludes Diners) from the ticketing station.

The bus leaves 50 minutes prior to the departure of each sailing. The bus also runs from the ferry arrivals terminal back to the Railway Station. However, we regret that we are unable to provide this service for sailings arriving into Wellington after 9pm.

Taxis

There is a designated taxi lane outside the terminal. If there are no taxis waiting, terminal staff will order one for you.

Refreshments

A café/shop operates between 7.00am and 6.00pm daily.

Rental Cars

A number of rental car companies have booths located inside the arrivals terminal.

Directions to Terminal

  • If you are driving from the central city you should follow Waterloo and Aotea Quay until the sign for the Interislander Terminal. Turn right into the terminal before the onramp to State Highway 1 motorway.
  • If you are driving south on State Highway 1 or 2 you should turn off at the bottom of Ngauranga Gorge and take the Hutt Road. Follow the signs for the Picton Ferry / Interislander Terminal.
  • If you wish to return rental cars you should check with the rental car provider about the nearest drop-off location.

Parking

In Wellington, short-term parking of up to 30 minutes is available, free of charge.  Please note, though, that space is limited and in great demand, especially during peak times.

Limited long-term Pay and Display parking is also available, at a cost of $10 per calendar day (or part thereof).   Long-term parks cannot be pre-booked; if you are travelling at peak times, such as during school holidays, Easter or Christmas, please do not rely on being able to use the long-term parking facilities.

Two Pay and Display vending machines are located centrally in the car park. The machines accept coins and credit cards only. Place the parking ticket face up on the vehicle dashboard. Parking is at the owners' risk.

When using the long-term parking facility, please allow extra time to check in.

Facilities

The terminal provides toilets / disability access toilets, internet kiosks, an accommodation phone board, arcade games and snack /drinking vending machines. Coin operated storage lockers are also available at a cost of approximately $4 for 12 hours.
